Red House, VA is a small rural community on the outskirts of Charlotte County. Charlotte County was founded in 1761, has a total population of 12,472 as of the 2000 census, and covers aproximately 477 square miles. Charlotte County boasts 7 fire companies: Company 3 in Bacon, Company 4 in Charlotte Court House, Company 5 in Cullen, Company 6 in Drakes Branch, Company 7 in Keysville, Company 8 in Phenix, and Company 9 in Red House.
Red House Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1979 and our first due area covers approximately 50 square miles in four different counties; Charlotte, Appomattox, Campbell, and Prince Edward. We are proudly a 100% volunteer department. We dedicate our time and effort to our community on a daily basis. The goal of our department is to prevent, protect against, and respond to emergency incidents.
Currently RHFVD has 29 crew members. Some members have been active since the foundation in 1979. The fire department has four apparatus;
1 pumper, 1 tanker, 1 brush, and 1 utility. We recently completed the new Company 9 Station located behind the community center at the intersection of Rt 727 and Hamlett Rd.
