Mike's fire service extends beyond that of his volunteering. He is a member of the Lynchburg Fire Department in Lynchburg, VA. Mike holds the rank of Captain, and currently is the departments Health and Safety Officer. He is also a member of the Virginia Region 3 Technical Rescue Team. Being married with three daughters and one grand-daughter, he is active in other areas of the community. Mike is a member at Providence Baptist Church in Red House, where he has held several positions of leadership. He has also been a coach and assistant coach of his daughters softball teams.
Mike Reeves is the current Chief of Red House Volunteer Fire Department and the fourth since the founding of the department in 1979. As a charter member, he has served as training officer for 4 years and Chief for the past 13 years. During his tenure as Chief, the department has been successful in accuring 4 AFG Grants, upgrading the department's air packs, turn out gear and communication systems. The grants have also allowed the expansion of services by adding hydraulic and pneumatic rescue tools. The department acquired it's first department specified apparatus, a 2001 Pierce 3,000 gallon Tanker and a 2007 Chevrolet 3500 Brush truck. His latest projects in process include guiding the department to be First Responders and the construction of the new fire station.
He was the first in the department to become certified in many areas including; Emergency Medical Technician, Firefighter I-III, Fire Officer I-III, Instructor I-III, EVOC, Technical Rescue, National Fire Academy Command and Control at Multiple Alarms, and Fire Ground Safety Officer. He has an Associates Degree in Fire Science and his Bachelor's Degree in Fire Service Administration from University of Oregon.
